Here is some drone video footage of Haweswater, showing the water levels at various points. The recent videos are all filmed and edited by Exploring with Eden Valley Drones.
“Helena Baily was a lovely person. I (John Cooke) was so fortunate to have spent two very long evenings at her flat in Penrith just a few months before she sadly passed away. We talked for hours about old Mardale and after initially trying to take notes I just sat back and returned with her to the beauty of old Mardale. In 1973 while at university I had spent time with her brother ( Canon TEH Baily) and he assisted me so very much also. We searched out the old slab bridge that crossed Riggindale Beck. Somehow my talk with Helena was much more intense and moving. After watching the short video (Mardale 95, above) you might like to read a little about the Baily family in the book. The Intriguing journals of the Baily family p62-64. Helena’s memories of Goosemire p58. More memories from Helena p178 with a charming family portrait on p183.
True history is not necessarily all about wars, scientific events and politics. Often it is all about real people. Helena was a perfect example.”
